Y Announces Interim CEO, Jim O'Rourke

Chairman of the Board, Pat Goudy, announces Interim CEO of the Regional YMCA of Western CT

Dear Regional YMCA Members and Staff,

I am happy to introduce Mr. Jim O’Rourke, who will be joining us as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut after the retirement of Marie Miszewski. Jim brings a wealth of experience and dedication to our community, having served as the CEO of the Greater Waterbury YMCA for the past fifteen years and a part of the YMCA movement for over 35 years.

During his tenure at the Waterbury YMCA, Jim has played a pivotal role in leading a team of over 250 employees and 100 volunteers. Under his guidance, the YMCA has significantly expanded its impact, engaging more than 22,500 individuals annually from various communities throughout Waterbury and the surrounding region in initiatives and programs that continue to promote health and well-being for all.

Fitness is a passion for Jim, and he can be found working out in the early morning most days, either in Waterbury or at the Greenknoll Branch in Brookfield. He’s an avid snowboarder and has completed seven – yes 7 – Ironman triathlons! Jim’s wife Nicola is a teacher, and they have a son Jameson.

Jim is not only known as someone who gets things done and for his remarkable professional achievements, but also as a true friend, advocate, and supporter of the causes he is involved with. Beyond his role at the YMCA, Jim is actively involved in the greater Waterbury community, serving on numerous steering committees and boards.

His dedication to fostering meaningful community connections is poised to leave a lasting impact in the greater Danbury area. Through his efforts, it’s anticipated that the positive outcomes of his community-building initiatives will soon become evident, contributing to the overall well-being of our community.

You may be aware that the Waterbury YMCA has been handling our accounting and HR functions for the past two years. Building on that relationship, it certainly makes sense that Jim will be our Interim CEO. We expect that his unique management style, characterized by strong support and collaboration, will be a good fit for the Regional Y and will contribute to our success moving forward.

If you’d like to contact Jim directly, you can reach out to him at jorourke@regionalymca.org or 203.775.4444, ext. 201.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Jim O’Rourke as he takes on the role of Interim CEO at the Regional YMCA. We are excited about the expertise and passion he brings to our team, and we look forward to achieving new heights under his leadership.

Sincerely,

Patrick Goudy
Chairman of the Board of Directors
