Leadership Development

Through our leadership programs, the Regional YMCA strives to ensure that every young person has an opportunity to envision and pursue a positive future. Building a strong foundation in leadership early in life encourages youth to take an active role in strengthening their communities as adults. Lead by our Youth & Teen Director, Bill McNamara, participants in our leadership programs can expect to make new friends, find the support they need and gain the confidence to challenge themselves.

Looking for a way to volunteer and give back to your community? The Y’s service club plans and participates in many kinds of projects. If you are artistic or just want to help others, we need you! Projects will include: face painting at events, painting murals or storefront windows around Danbury, helping middle school and high school students with homework, and other jobs as needed. This is a great way to fulfill community services hours for school or other projects.

Interested in the law and how government works? If you had the power to change laws in Connecticut, what would you do? Write legislative bills, practice debating and public speaking, and participate in a youth-led government process. The program wraps up with a State Legislative Convention at the State House in Hartford where 300 other High School students debate their bills.
