As we age, it is even more important to stay active. Here at the Y we offer adults a chance to get active with people just like you! Active Older Adults are welcome to participate in any of our fitness and aquatics classes.

We offer several classes specifically for adults 50 and older.

Yoga

Strengthen and lengthen core muscles through controlled movement and breath. Improve balance, flexibility and body awareness.

Zumba® Gold

Zumba® Gold was designed for the active older adult, the true beginner, and/or people who are not used to exercising, or people who may be limited physically. Zumba Gold is done at a much lower intensity. The same great Latin styles of music and dance are used and just as fun as the regular Zumba classes. Zumba® Gold classes strives to improve our balance, strength, flexibility and most importantly, the heart.

Living healthy is about spirit, mind and body at every age and stage. The Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut offers classes and programs for those dealing with or preventing chronic disease, in addition to self-monitoring blood pressure assessments and Wellness Discussion events.

First Fridays

The first Friday of every month, you are invited to attend all of our “First Friday” Social events. Each month, the topic or activity will change. We will welcome your suggestions for activities and topics. 

First Friday of each month at 1PM

  • FREE to all who are interested!
  • Adults only.
  • Meet us in the Huisking Room.

November 2 MUSIC BINGO

Join us Friday, November 2nd and put your musical knowledge to the test at Music BINGO. The DJ will play a song and you will mark your Bingo card by song title. The more the merrier. Bring a friend. Members and Non-members welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

Building Connections

The Phone a Friend Program is designed to provide regular, friendly phone calls to individuals who are feeling isolated or lonely. Our goal is to offer a comforting voice and a listening ear to help alleviate feelings of loneliness and build meaningful connections.

Together, we can make a difference in reducing loneliness and building a stronger, more connected community.

Benefits:

  • EMOTIONAL SUPPORT: Regular conversations can provide emotional comfort and reduce feelings of isolation.
  • SOCIAL INTERACTION: Helps participants stay socially connected and engaged with their community.
  • SAFETY CHECK-INS: Offers a sense of security through regular check-ins.

How It Works:

  • ENROLLMENT: Participants can enroll in the program by signing up online or contacting our support team.
  • MATCHING: Each participant is matched with a YMCA staff member based on shared interests and preferences.
  • REGULAR CALLS: YMCA staff will call participants at agreed-upon times, typically once or twice a week, for a friendly chat and check-in.
  • CONFIDENTIAL AND SAFE: All conversations are confidential, and our staff are trained to provide a supportive and respectful environment.
